"Snafu"

WRITER: CHRIS DINGESS
DIRECTOR: VINCENT MISIANO

AIR DATE: February 17 2015

CONTAINS SPOILERS!

‘Snafu’ is the title of the second last episode of the season for Agent Carter, and I wondered if anyone actually grasped the meaning of that word, which of course is an abbreviation popular in the Second World War, but involving one very bad word in the mix. If they did grasp the meaning, did the network get it?

Anyway, things don’t seem to look good for our heroine Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). She’s under arrest at the SSR, being interrogated by her colleagues, considered a traitor. She seems to have but one ally, the reliable and resourceful Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy, who’s really such fun as the straight laced Stark butler). For an episode that largely consists of face to face conversation, interrogations, and being around the office, things actually move along quite briskly, and a lot goes on - and goes wrong.

Peggy goes from being a suspect to being back in general good graces - but there’s a problem at the heart of the SSR. Ivchenko (Ralph Brown) is using his hypnotic influence over Chief Dooley (Shea Whigham) to get his hands on something he needs, being held in the SSR’s labs. Ivchenko seems one step ahead of everyone, and leaves the SSR with a rather deadly problem - a piece of Stark technology that is certain death for one of their own. How that person deals with the situation fits the character - and pretty much guarantees that’s the last we’ll see of them in this series.

The episode ends on an ominous note - Ivchenko and Dottie (Bridget Regan) make use of the stolen technology by testing it in a crowded theatre. What results is, well... grisly. What is their end game? What is Leviathan actually up to?

With one episode left in the season, there’s not much time left for such dangling plotlines to be left unattended to. And at this point, one hell of a fight between our esteemed Agent Carter and her Leviathan counterpart Dottie would be quite welcome.
